Android: How to block SMS from unwanted numbers on mobile

Newer versions of Android rely on a native feature to block text messages from unwanted numbers. The function, while not preventing a blocked user from sending new SMS, ensures that, if this happens, the recipient's cell phone will ignore the contact attempts.

In the following tutorial, TechTudo will teach you how to use the function. However, before proceeding, it's worth noting that although the procedure uses tools from Android itself, depending on the model and manufacturer of your smartphone, some menus may differ from the ones given below.

How to block contacts in WhatsApp?

Step 2. Locate the message of the number you want to block, and then hold your finger on it. Keep your finger pressed until an options bar appears at the top of the screen.

Tap and hold the sender's message you want to block

Step 3. On this bar, note that the icons refer to the following functions: archive, delete, add as contact and finally lock. Therefore, to prevent your smartphone from receiving other messages from the selected number, touch the last option.

Step 4. From now on, the messages sent by the number in question will be ignored by your phone. Those received before the lock, in turn, will disappear from the inbox. However, if you want to view them again, just touch the three-point button in the corner of the screen and choose the option "Archived".

Unlocking a number

To allow a user to send you messages again or simply to view all the numbers you've already blocked, follow the steps below:

Step 1. Access the "Messages" application again. Then touch the three-dot icon displayed in the corner of the screen.

Step 2. Proceed to "Blocked Contacts". In the next screen, the interface will display a list of all the numbers you have blocked. To the right of these numbers, an "x" is also displayed. Tap this "x" to remove the corresponding number lock.

Ready! After confirming the unlock, the messages of the number in question will normally appear again in your inbox.
