Here's how to upgrade the firmware of a Thomson router.

Step 1. As Thomson does not offer updates directly through the settings, you need to turn to your Internet service provider. When requesting new firmware for the Thomson router, the company must provide two files: the firmware and a ZIP called the "Upgrade Tool". Save the files to an easily accessible folder.

Click on the Upgrade Tool with the right mouse button and select "Extract all". At the end of the process you will see a second folder with the same name.

Step 2. Look for the "setup.exe" item and double-click to open and run the installation wizard.

Step 3. Before running the installer, make sure that the computer used in the update is connected to the cable router. Then select the "Upgrade your Thomson gateway" option.

Step 4. Click "Next" and wait for the program to locate the router on the network. The wizard prompts you for the device user and password data. By default, the login is usually blank and the password is "admin" (without quotes).

Step 5. Click the "Have a disk" option and select the firmware file provided by your Internet service provider.

Step 6. Proceed to "Next" to complete the installation. It is important that the router is always connected to a power source. While the process is in progress, the Wi-Fi signal will go offline.
