How to prevent your PC from connecting to a public Wi-Fi automatically

Windows 10 enables, by default, some functions that allow the computer to connect to a public network automatically. However, features require caution, as the use of an open Wi-Fi can open the way for hackers to hack into your system and steal your files and passwords.

To ensure the security of your PC, here are three options to leave this connection disabled in Windows 10 and prevent the computer from connecting to a public Wi-Fi known or not automatically. Remember that when using an open network it is also important to be aware of details such as the padlock in the navigation bar.

Known public Wi-Fi

When connecting to an open network in a cafe, mall or office, Windows 10 records Wi-Fi so you can access it faster when you return to the location. However, you can configure this network so that it does not connect automatically when you are with your computer turned on nearby. In this case, you can perform the process during and after using public Wi-Fi.

1) During access

Step 1. Open the Windows Control Panel and go to 'Network and Internet';

Prevention

Windows 10 also offers a feature called 'Wi-Fi Sensor' to connect your computer to suggested hotspots automatically. However, the system itself indicates that some networks may not be secure.

In this case, to prevent it, simply return to the 'Network Settings' screen indicated in step 1 of the second step and disable the 'Connect to suggested open hotspots' item key as indicated in the image below.
