Ten Beginner Survival Tips on Monster Hunter: World

Monster Hunter: World, Capcom's adventure for PS4, Xbox One and PC (Steam), came with an ambitious goal: to make the game of monsters hunting fall in love with western gamers. This is because the franchise has always been a success in the East, especially in Japan. Some mechanics have been improved, but the differentiated gameplay and the system of character-by-ranking progression - characteristic of the franchise - are still present. And that's exactly where some players, accustomed to leveling up for XP, or experience points, may be lost.

Thinking about it, TechTudo has set up a survival guide so you can get started in the game without wasting time trying to understand each new tutorial, customization or mission. Believe me, it's a lot of information. No further delays, check out the list below.

1. Which weapon to choose?

Monster Hunter: World gives the player the ability to choose between 14 different weapons. And each one chosen adds totally different gameplay to the other. A lot of choice can get in the way, especially if you've never played anything from the series before. The tip here is to take a pass in the Training Area and test them all. Just talk to Amigato, who works as a janitor, in your room (there are some entrance to the room in Astera). In training, you can blow up and destroy whatever you want without the cost of ammunition.

The second tip is to not try to play with all weapons at once, especially at the beginning. The interesting thing is to choose one or two and specialize in it. As you progress through the game you will be able to buy new weapons and perfect the ones you already have. Of course, it will take money (which you gain by completing quests), collecting objects around the world and hunting monsters, sometimes the same over and over again in the hope of getting that rare gem. By the way, all items that can be extracted from creatures are random and you will need to be very patient until the claw you need, for example, appears. Even patience is something that you will exercise a lot in this game.

Test all available weapons in Monster Hunter: World and, after making your choice, be sure to perfect it whenever possible

2. Do not cling to the initial armor

The initial impulse is almost always wanting to perfect that first or second armor set to the maximum, right? Do not do it. But there is an explanation. Armor sets are divided into two groups: lowest ranking (from rarities 1 to 4) and highest ranking (from rarities 5 to 8). Its focus needs to be on this second option, even because low rarity sets have low maximum enhancement limits.

Of course, in order to reach this higher group you have to progress in history and, above all, survive there. The tip is to always leave some Hunting active to gain Armor Balls, items used to perfect your outfits. In principle, they will appear weaker spheres, ideal to give a help in its initial armor, but use them in moderation. They will be much more useful in better equipment. To register a Hunt, simply go to the Patio of Commerce (on the 1st floor) and go to the Resource Center. As you progress through the campaign, more difficult hunts, and with more powerful Armor Balls, will appear.

To unlock new armor it is essential to make progress in the main campaign. However, unlocking means just having it available at the Workshop (located on the 2nd floor). Now it is running after the resources to forge them, besides having the necessary money. Again, enter the exercise of your patience here.

Leaving Active Hunt is a more practical way to get Armor Balls in Monster Hunter: World

3. My hunter does not level up! What happened?

This, perhaps, is the biggest doubt of who "parachuted" into Monster Hunter for the first time. The classic level progression, which is part of most Western games, where it is necessary to kill enemies and fulfill some tasks to accumulate XP (experience points), only works for your Friend. Your character progresses from a hunter ranking system.

In principle, your ranking will rise as you progress through the main story, only. It does not matter how many times you return to this or that monster to kill or capture it. Until the last battle of the campaign, it will be possible to progress to level 15. Once you have defeated the last creature, your ranking will be unlocked and you will be able to climb normally after successfully completing a catch contract (such as a designated mission). In order to continue climbing the ranks, it will be necessary to complete missions available with both the Assistant (usually in the Cantina, 3rd floor) and in some of the Missions Squares, spread by Astera.

To upgrade you need to move forward in the main campaign. Search for contracts on the Monster Hunter Quest Board: World

4. Your Friend, Your Best Friend

Monster Hunter: World is not just about the pain and suffering to get the set of weapons and armor of dreams. Throughout their arduous journey, their main squire will be a Amigato (Palico), Felynos that made a pact with the hunters to help them in battles. Make no mistake about her cute, furry face. Friends are fearless and very useful in battles, both to help you defeat monsters and collect extra items, but you need to equip them for them.

Go to the Workshop and choose the Forge Amigato Equipment option. If you have not attended any events yet, such as the one that freed the special Horizon Zero Dawn armor for Amigato, only the Standard Equipment option will appear. The list of weapons and armor for your Palico will also be updated as you progress through the campaign, and you'll need creature items to forge them. The only difference here is that instead of money, everything related to the Amigas is done with points - achieved by completing missions and other tasks with success.

In addition to forging weapons and armor, you can choose the special skill type of your Palico. Talk to him in your bedroom and choose the Change Friend of Tomatoes option. These abilities will be unlocked as you find other groups of different Felynos on the map, which will also help you in the missions. In the criterion of curiosity, it is possible to dispense with your Friend, in one of the options when talking with the pussy. The point is to have the icy heart to do this.

Do not forget to improve the equipment of your Friend. He is very useful in battles in Monster Hunter: World

5. Carry only what you need in your bag

There are hundreds of features scattered across the map that can be combined to create multiple items. From the traditional healer potions to barrel pumps and manure caps, you have at your disposal numerous customization options, which can lead you to want to carry everything at once in your bag. Do not do it. Your inventory space is limited, and depending on which weapon you have chosen, the item you may be carrying is useless and takes up only space. The advice also holds true for compulsive collectors: you do not have to take up multiple ammunition resources if you're using a sword, for example.

The tip is to optimize your bag by taking items ready for use and leaving most of the raw materials in your personal chest (which can be accessed at various points on the map, including inside your tent on active missions). If you already know what awaits you on a mission (which monster you will face and in which environment), prioritize items that will help you survive longer. If it is a monster catch contract, for example, be sure to carry some trap and sedative bombs; you'll need it alive.

By the way, before making any quest, be sure to visit your chest and see if you can create new objects and still replenish your purse inventory. Being in the middle of the lava and just remembering that you forgot to get some cold drinks may be too late, for example. It is also interesting to mark the items you use most for automatic production.

Before leaving for a new mission in Monster Hunter: World, go ahead in your item box to create more potions and traps, for example

6. How to survive the game camera in battles

The Monster Hunter: World action camera will certainly stress you before any monster does. Especially if this is your first contact with any title in the series. Knowing this, the game itself allows you to make adjustments, such as focusing on all monsters or just big ones, aiming, speed of the camera and so on. To access these settings, within the game, go to System, Options, Camera.

There is no magic formula for the best camera to use. It all depends on your style of play and even the type of weapon you are using. It is worth testing some combinations and see what suits your taste. All in all, there are 16 customization options for you. Have a good time.

Adapt the Monster Hunter: World camera to your style and do not suffer as much. Facing Kushala Daora (photo) is already enough opponents

7. How best to prepare to face a monster

In addition to organizing your bag of items, as stated before, before facing a creature it is very important to know more about it. The first time you encounter an Anjanath, for example, you may well have to face it in the dark, which could mean an almost certain death. But it does not always have to be this way. Most monsters leave traces (footprints, mucus, body parts) and, one of your jobs as a hunter, is to collect these trails to learn more about your target. When collecting enough traces it will be possible to see the monster on the map.

Remembering that it is important to visit the Chief of Ecology, which is in the Courtyard of Commerce, to present their findings and thus unlock more information for the Bestiary. This catalog contains useful information such as: characteristics of monsters, habitats, weak points, what effects they suffer and etc. The more traces you collect, the more information will be unlocked.

Gold Tip: Before heading out for a hunt, be sure to stop by the canteen to grab a bite. In addition to staying more active in battle, you can still earn food bonuses.

Even if you have already recognized and located a monster, never stop collecting trails whenever possible in Monster Hunter: World

8. How to get items to forge weapons and armor

This is the most adored part of the game. The high point of the game is to hunt monsters, so if you want that set of armor or weapon ranking 8 you will have to go hunting ... And a lot! Enter the Mission Chart and choose to publish or enter a new mission. If your intent is to get some specific parts, the best option is the Investigation contracts, which in addition to the normal items received when completing the mission successfully, also give extra raw materials.

Activating the daily tickets, received upon entering the game, before the missions also increase the chances of prizes received. There are always extra features that can be achieved by sending friends to Safaris. For this, just visit the caretaker in your room when the service is active.

Responding to SOS from other players is also interesting, especially if you filter your quest for the monster you are looking for. From there it's pure lottery: you can get the item you need first or have to redo the same mission several times until you can. And if you're playing in multiplayer mode, you still have the risk of spending almost 50 minutes on a hunt and, by chance, players exceed the number of fainting spells (usually 3) and the mission fails. Try not to despair. Keep the focus, you will achieve!

Doing Investigations can be the best way to get rarer items for your weapons and armor from Monster Hunter: World

Gold Tip: Whenever possible, capture a monster instead of killing it. Catch more items. During the fight, wait for the image of a skull to appear above the monster icon on the mini map, and stop hitting it (or you will kill it). Wait until he crawls into the nest and sleeps. Put a trap right next to it and, as soon as it falls into it, throw two or three sedative bombs at it. It is also possible to capture a creature before it goes to the nest, as long as the cave appears on the mini map, but the first option is safer.

9. "It's dangerous to go alone"

As an old man advised Link in The Legend of Zelda not to face the dangers that were to come alone, the best experience of Monster Hunter: World is to play with other people. It is worth mentioning that, in no time, the game forces you to play in multiplayer mode. However, as much as you are a lone wolf, give the cooperative a try. And the reason is very simple: each player has the possibility to complement the other in some strategy, especially having 14 different types of weapons available.

Playing in a group also helps you breathe a little in a battle, while the attention of the monsters is on the other hunters. So you can, for example, sharpen your weapon, change the type of ammo, drink a potion, collect some part of the creature that fell to the ground, or simply find out where the camera decided to focus this time. Anyway, Monster Hunter: World is one of the most satisfying online experiences of this generation, all it takes is Capcom to solve a few problems of sessions falling from time to time.

10. Bonus: customize your poogie

This will not change your gameplay at all and would not even fit as a survival tip, but it needs to be said: customize your pet pig. At Astera (the base camp of the game), you'll see a cute pajama pig wandering around the Trade Court.

Play with it and solve the mini game, which basically comes down to pushing a button, at the right time, at the end of the song. Do this every time you arrive from a mission (or always because it is cute). At some point, he will jump from happiness and hearts will appear on his head. Take it on your lap and take it for a walk on the first floor. As you feel the control vibrate in your hand, place it on the floor. Your poogie will start digging and you can find items for use in battles as well as outfits for him. Important: do not forget to give it a name!

Play and personalize your poogie from Monster Hunter: World. He is cute
